Dredging had become necessary at the port entrance due to accumulation of sand.
The materials were reused as beach replenishment to protect against future storms and to improve the beach environment. The materials were dredged out of the channel and loaded onto barges. The barges then proceeded to a pumping station where the materials were pumped onto the beach through a 1.5 km pipeline.
The sand material was then distributed by a grader to make an attractive wide beach.
