Camilla Høj has just completed a long-term marine operation, where Høj Nordic Marine Contractor carried out scour protection around bridge piers. The project was executed in Denmark for an international Main Contractor.
A total of 150,000 tonnes of rock material were placed and levelled in graded layers around the bridge foundations to protect against erosion. The work required a high degree of precision and close coordination with other contractors on site – a challenge further intensified by changes in the main contractor’s project management and the presence of multiple nationalities across the project team.
Despite the need for tight project management and flexibility throughout the execution phase, the assignment was delivered as planned and within the agreed timeframe. The execution was carried out using our vessel Camilla Høj, with fuel consumption continuously reported for the project’s climate accounting.
Our part of the project is now complete, but we believe we have a strong foundation for future collaboration.
Scour Protection
Scour protection prevents seabed erosion and excavation around bridge foundations, especially at columns and piers. When water flows around a bridge structure, vortices and turbulence occur, displacing sediment and soil at the base – a process known as scour. By placing graded rock material, scour protection prevents undermining of the foundation, thereby enhancing structural safety and prolonging the lifespan of the bridge. All operations are based on pre- and post-dredging surveys integrated in a digital setup onboard the vessel’s dredging control system.
