Høj Nordic Marine Contractor has carried out dredging of an approximately 2,000-metre-long cable route across the Fehmarn Sound using the vessels Camilla Høj, Lea Høj, Elisabeth Høj and Alberte Høj. The works were carried out for a German client.
Dredging at varying depths
The works comprised route and excavation depths ranging from -3 to -17 metres. In total, approximately 51,000 m³ of moraine clay and sand were handled, partly placed in depot areas and partly disposed of at designated disposal sites. In addition, clearance of seaweed, sediments and stones was carried out, and a sand layer was established at the bottom of the cable route.
Technically demanding cable works
The selected cable type imposed enhanced requirements on quality and execution. The cable route was kept free of stones larger than 10 cm, and the cables were protected with sand layers and ballasted geotextile both below and above. Høj Nordic Marine Contractor’s crew also provided their assistance during cable installation.
Coordination across stakeholders
The assignment required close coordination between multiple involved parties and placed high need for planning, collaboration and flexibility to ensure progress throughout all phases – from dredging to final reinstatement with re-deposition of materials.
The works contribute to the establishment of a robust and secure cable route supporting the regional energy infrastructure. An example of complex marine works.
