Due to the construction of new wind farms in the Baltic Sea, new sea to shore cable routes were needed for the area east of Warnemünde.
Our portion of the more than 30 km of cable route was a piece of about 6,000 m that traversed a former landfill site with various materials from the Rostock Harbour including leftover ammunition from the Second World War.
Prior to project initiation, a survey was done to find metal objects of various kinds.
The excavation was done with a hydraulic excavator in whose excavation system all relevant locations had been entered. When materials and metals were excavated from a relevant location, they were put through a sieve on board the vessel and examined by ammunition experts who identified shells and ammunition and then forwarded them for disposal.
