Erosion Protection at the Alssund Bridge

The vessel Aase Høj is placing 1,800 m³ of stone material as scour protection around the bridge piers to ensure the bridge’s stability and lifespan.

Høj Nordic Marine Contractor has carried out scour protection at the Alssund Bridge around piers 5 and 6. The task consisted of delivering and placing approximately 1,800 m³ of stones as scour protection to protect the bridge’s surroundings, especially slopes and banks, against erosion.

The stone material was delivered by truck to quay and onshore facilities south of the Alssund Bridge, from where it was loaded onto the vessel Aase Høj. The crew on board the vessel handled the precise placement of the scour protection based on data from Aase Høj’s own excavation system. The work was carried out according to profile and with continuous quality control via the excavation system, ensuring both accurate placement and documentation of the deployment.

Aase Høj is ideal for this type of task. The vessel has a loading capacity of 200 m³ and a wire crane system capable of lifting ca. 12 tons. In addition, she has a shallow draft, high maneuverability, and specialized equipment, making her particularly well-suited for stone placement projects.

The project at the Alssund Bridge has been completed with a focus on precision and documentation. With Aase Høj as the executing vessel and the PDS-2000 system’s detailed excavation plots, the stones have been placed correctly according to profile, ensuring robust erosion protection around the piers so they continue to support the bridge’s stability and lifespan.
